A Window Into Your Soul

What Is An Ethical Will (Legacy Letter)?

Also known as a Legacy Letter, an ethical will is a unique non-legal document to help you safeguard your most important assets for future generations – your values, wisdom, and character. Among other things, it could contain important stories from your life, lessons learned, expressions of love, forgiveness, gratitude, or regret, statements of your core values, special requests or advice for the future, lists of favorite quotes, books, movies, or music, or anything else important to you.

Why Is An Ethical Will (Legacy Letter) Important?

  • It’s an important part of estate planning.
  • It allows you to pass on your most important assets: what you’ve learned along the way, guiding principles you’ve stuck to, and personal memories that you may wish to share with your family members and the generations after them.
  • If you have divided property and assets among your family with a legal will or made changes to your will, an ethical will can help you explain your intentions to your benefactors. Being able to tell them why you made the decisions that you did can help prevent misunderstandings, confusion, and hurt feelings among family members.

A Gift Of Love.

Your Legacy Letter.

"Done right, an ethical will is a gift of love, a way of saying, 'This is what I found gave me satisfaction and gave my life meaning. … May it do the same for you.’"
